Things We Can Do Now For a Better Tomorrow

Submitted by Ellaine Abad

Even if we have bad days, we can always set ourselves up to have a better day tomorrow. As annoying as it may sound, small tasks that we do and may not think twice about have a big impact on our future. With this in mind, here’s a list of things that we can do now and throughout our day to set ourselves up for a better tomorrow.

1. Create a to-do list for today and tomorrow, in the order of priority.

Creating a list of what needs to be done allows you to see what you need to prioritize for the day and plan out what can be done throughout today and the rest of the week. You could help your future self too by even taking care of smaller tasks or preparing as much as you can for larger tasks (like meal preps, etc.) so you can save yourself time later on, which is especially useful in weeks when you know you’re busy. Going into each week with a plan of what should get done each day allows you to be more productive and feel more organized, which will, in turn, make you feel accomplished and have a better day once the task is completed!

2. Plan break times.

Breaks are so important for everyone to take to avoid feeling burnt out and unmotivated to complete tasks (which would end up in procrastinating tasks and therefore making the future more stressful). Planning when to give yourself a break, even if it’s just for 5 or 10 minutes, is so helpful in helping you reset your mind and possibly even allow yourself to find a new approach on how to accomplish your tasks. By doing so, you can be more productive today and therefore set yourself up with a better tomorrow by having more motivation.

3. Reward yourself

This goes in hand with the last bullet – rewarding yourself can help with feeling motivated in what you do. It helps make the goal you reach feel so much more accomplished. These rewards don’t have to be large, it could be anything from watching an episode of a show you really like, doing your hobby, getting a sweet treat, or even just hanging out with some friends. It reminds yourself that you have worked hard and that should be recognized.

4. Take care of yourself

Like everyone says, eating healthy, staying active, maintaining personal hygiene, getting good sleep, doing things that make you happy, and associating with people that make you happy, are all things that can make you feel good in the present. I think that this also helps you have a better day tomorrow, and far out in the future, as well. Maintaining good health practices and surrounding yourself with people and activities that bring you positivity are all things that could prevent potential stressor later down the road, like sickness/health issues and drama. By prioritizing your wellbeing, it sets you up for a better future.

5. Reflect

Reflecting on the type of day you’ve had or a situation you’ve experienced is important in both a personal and professional standpoint. It gives you an opportunity to realize any weaknesses you may have or ways you can improve or approach things better. By realizing any mistakes or wrongdoings, it allows you to come up with solutions that could improve situations, regardless of its severity. It allows you to grow as an individual. How you interpret and act upon what you reflect on can help you have a better understanding of what to do moving forward to make yourself have a better tomorrow.

I hope this list of things you could do to have a better tomorrow has brought up new perspectives or re-inspired some motivation in you to keep pushing forward with what you do! You work hard and it is okay to feel all the negative emotions today. Just remember that everything will pass, and you can come out of it so much stronger by taking little steps to make a better tomorrow.
