What’s Your Dating Personality? Tiktok Viral Smile Dating Test

    February 27, 2023 /

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be fitting to promote the viral “Smile Dating Test.” Over winter break, I would see so many influencers and Tiktoks post their results to this test, oftentimes paired with the results of their significant other. This viral Korean dating test analyzes your answers to 12 various two option questions and determines how you are in romantic relationships, referred to as your “dating personality.” The questions range from preferences of staying in versus going out to how you react to life updates from your best friend.

    Unlearning Colorism

    February 27, 2023 /

I think every Filipino girl has their fair share of horror stories about Titas who were much too grown and much too busy to have the time to be commenting on the appearance of girls who aren’t even theirs. To no fault but their own toxic upbringing, they judged anything and everything that caught their attention. Weight gain, weight loss, academics—the list goes on and on. However, there was one thing in particular that they would point out about without fail. Even more outside of my control than my fluctuating weight and static height—it was my skin color. Brown and so unlike the porcelain white skin that they believed to…

Fruits Basket, My Favorite Romance Anime

    February 27, 2023 /

Everyone who knows me is aware that I’m not the biggest fan of the romance genre, but I do have a few that stick out to me. There is one particular showI have in mind and that happens to be Fruits Basket. This fantasy romance anime is about a young girl named Tohru Honda, who becomes an orphan and is forced to live with her grandfather. A popular student in Tohru’s class named Yuki stumbles upon her living situation and insists on Tohru to live with him and his cousins. Soon into the story Tohru learns that each person in Yuki’s family tree is possessed by spirits of the Chinese…

A Piece of Self-Discovery in Spain

    February 27, 2023 /

Understanding your true self takes time; for me, it took years. It was the vagueness of it all that sparked my anxiety: having no direction in life and feeling lost within the constraints of my own mind. You would think that even with large academic and long-term goals, I would feel more satisfied in fulfilling them with “ease,” but I continued to struggle with the idea of commitment and the thought that my dreams would somehow turn into reality.

Am I Becoming a Karen Like My Asian Parents?

    February 27, 2023 /

Growing up in a strict Asian family, I always told myself that I wanted to be different from my parents. When they said to do chores everyday or week, I wanted to do them whenever I saw fit. When they said to do what you need to right away, I wanted to do it later. When they said to get what you paid for, no matter the price, I wanted to not care. When they said bad dad jokes, I didn’t want to be near to hear them. When they asked me if I ate yet or if I wanted to eat more, I wanted them to stop asking...

    Valentine’s Day Nail Art

    February 27, 2023 /

February is known as the month of love, which is represented by hearts that are usually pink or red. Since hearts are a simpler shape to create using fun colors, they make the perfect design to use on nail art. In the past few years, the recent trend of doing your own nails and having more out-going nail art designs has increased the amount of holiday-themed nail art inspirations that you can find all over different social media platforms. I have always loved doing my own nail art and designs since I was in elementary school, so I personally enjoy seeing new creative designs that inspire me to continue doing…
