The Law of Care

The Law of Care is codified into my family.

It has been inscripted into the family code of conduct for generations. 

I never understood it growing up.

Until later on. 

The law is based on love for your younger siblings. 

I questioned it. 

I protested it. 

I challenged it. 

I always lost. 

If you pour yourself a cup of juice—

you pour your younger brother a cup too. 

If you go out with your friends to eat—

you ask your younger brother if he would like something. 

If you cook for yourself—

you save half the portion for your younger brother. 

In an argument with your younger brother—

if he is upset, it is your responsibility. 

If your younger brother is upset at you—

you did something wrong. 

Your younger brother always gets his way. 

This is the law. 

This is love.
