How to Joke Like a Filipino
As a Filipina raised by both sets of grandparents, I learned the ways in which my family interacted with each other. Of course the gossiping was always a given, but jokes, especially told in Tagalog, were much more entertaining to us. I’m not bilingual by all means, but I do, however, understand the hilarious conversation amongst them. Learning cultural humor is something that I’ve been trying to immerse myself in more, so impressing others with these skills in their native language is an opportunity to grow closer with others and share in the laughter together.

Things I Got Scolded For As A Kid
Submitted by Michelle Ewton Playing With My Chopsticks In my defense, they look like drumsticks. How will I ever live out my dream of becoming a rockstar if I don’t practice my drum solo? My parents never saw the vision, saying that the only right career paths were doctor, lawyer, or pharmacist. So what if I have no rhythm, as long as you have passion and are confident that’s all you need right? Apparently though, playing with chopsticks is considered bad manners. Something about how it’s rude and people don’t try to drum with a spoon and fork. Perhaps the real solution is that we should just use all cutlery…

Depictions of Karma in Anime
When it comes to a topic like karma, it is interesting to see how it gets depicted in the media and how we as an audience observe it. For me, there were a few animes that came to mind and a couple characters that dealt with the consequences of their actions, or in this case, dealt with the bad karma that came their way.

Why Karma From League of Legends Has A Perfect Name
Karma, from Hinduism and Buddhism, refers to the cycle of cause and effect or more commonly, “you reap what you sow”. In the popular game League of Legends, Karma is portrayed as a powerful mage champion who uses both magic and spiritual energy to attack and defend her allies and enemies. Her abilities are closely tied to the concept of karma, as her actions can either heal or harm others, depending on the situation. The developers at Riot Games likely chose the name Karma for this champion to reflect her abilities and thematic elements, as well as to draw on the cultural significance of the concept of karma.

Fruits Basket, My Favorite Romance Anime
Everyone who knows me is aware that I’m not the biggest fan of the romance genre, but I do have a few that stick out to me. There is one particular showI have in mind and that happens to be Fruits Basket. This fantasy romance anime is about a young girl named Tohru Honda, who becomes an orphan and is forced to live with her grandfather. A popular student in Tohru’s class named Yuki stumbles upon her living situation and insists on Tohru to live with him and his cousins. Soon into the story Tohru learns that each person in Yuki’s family tree is possessed by spirits of the Chinese…

Valentine’s Day Nail Art
February is known as the month of love, which is represented by hearts that are usually pink or red. Since hearts are a simpler shape to create using fun colors, they make the perfect design to use on nail art. In the past few years, the recent trend of doing your own nails and having more out-going nail art designs has increased the amount of holiday-themed nail art inspirations that you can find all over different social media platforms. I have always loved doing my own nail art and designs since I was in elementary school, so I personally enjoy seeing new creative designs that inspire me to continue doing…

My Experience On APSA’s New York Trip
On December 3, 2022 APSA held their annual New York City trip. This was my first time going on the trip though, so I was a little nervous. Before this trip, I had never been on a school trip in college. This seemed like a good opportunity though, it was only for a day and it was free. Well, I had to make a down payment of $10 just to secure a spot on the list, but afterwards they gave the money back. Even if it was $10 to go on the trip, I would have wanted to go anyway because it would have been a nice break from school…

Asian Comfort Food
After a long semester, it is time for winter break. For many, this means coming home and being around the ones you love. There is no better feeling than being able to finally relax and unwind with friends and family. Additionally, there is the excitement of the holiday season. But out of all the joys of being back, I mostly look forward to home cooking. While away at school, I often long for the delicious meals my family or I create. It is the best when you get to come back and make the foods that you love eating. Here are a few of my favorite dishes to eat during…

Cute and Comfy Squishmallows to make the Perfect Gift
While the holidays have just passed, gift-giving is a year round task that may sometimes cause us extra stress as we ponder over the perfect present for our loved ones. One of the most classic gifts you can’t go wrong with this year is an adorable plushie. Whether it's a sibling, roommate, or even a gift for yourself, everyone loves a squishy and soft toy to lay on their bed and keep them cozy. For the past few years, squishmallows have been all over Tik Tok pages, Pinterest boards, and gift wish lists among so many people (including myself). However, as they have grown so popular, the brand has made…
