Now that Halloween is officially over, it’s time to look forward to the next festive occasion...and no, we’re not talking about Thanksgiving—but that’s exciting too! :). Love is a plate of fruit

    February 23, 2021 /

When I think of love in the purest sense, it rarely generates an image of romantic, candlelit dinners or passionate declarations of emotion. It’s not that I don’t care for these gestures of love--(in fact, I can confidently say I will always appreciate a thoughtfully planned meal)--but it just so happens what immediately comes to mind instead is a plate of fruit.

    Filipino Palitaw

    February 8, 2021 /

Living in a Filipino household, I’ve always learned the importance of family, and the countless experiences, traditions, and foods that defined our cultural identity. Every one of my New Year’s Eve consists of buying a variety of twelve fruits, roasting chestnuts, shaking coins in our pockets, and spending time with my family. These traditions and superstitions are necessary to follow in order for the family to have a life of good luck and prosperity.

Holiday Gift Advice Column: the Dos and Don’ts of Gifting to Asian Parents

    February 8, 2021 /

Navigating gift giving for Asian parents is like trying to solve an extremely complicated math equation. It’s hard, messy, and oftentimes very, very confusing. Every holiday season, you find yourself in the same age-old dilemma: Should you get them something fancy and pretty that will cause them to scold you for unnecessarily spending money, or should you go for something cheap and risk coming off as the callous, ungrateful child that doesn’t respect his/her parents?
