“constantly”

An original song written by: Aili Inguito

Context: I wrote “constantly” last June late one night with my guitar. The song, especially the chorus and Verse 3, is a reminder to myself to slow down and take a break during the journey of life, amidst a world that keeps on turning and demanding more of us… constantly. This song, particularly in the pre-chorus and bridge, also mentions themes of perfectionism and burnout. These subjects tie into this month’s overall theme of Mental Health.

Lyrics:

Verse 1:

constantly thinking

life is so messy

leave me a clue

constantly trying

don’t know if i’m ready

so much more to do

Pre-Chorus:

what will they say when i am gone?

will they leave me if i’ve done wrong?

why can’t i just do it all?

how can you stop the fall?

Chorus:

wait there’s flowers

pause and take it in

hey it’s a journey

trust you’ll know where to begin (2nd time: trust me, you’ll make it, kid)

let’s climb the tower

stare at the view

little people

just like me and you

Verse 2:

constantly sweating

my backpack is heavy

always on the move

constantly chasing

the life i am dreaming

there’s more left to prove

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Bridge:

why am I seeking perfection in my reflection

i’m pretending just to blend in

when did this happen, i’m cryin’ or laughin’

but it’s better than nothin’

Ending Chorus:

stay there’s flowers

breathe and let it out

end of your journey

look… you’ve made it

top of the tower

what a lovely view

little people

they’ll be here too

Verse 3:

constantly changing

the world is amazing

did you know the sky is blue

constantly taking

one step at a time

aware that i love you
