The College Student’s Last-Minute Holiday Gift Guide

Written by Jodie Li

Exams are over! It’s finally time to put your whole heart into the holiday season. The first half of December can be a blur after pushing your brain to the max, but the reward of finishing is amazing. Now, we’ve entered the next phase of the month: the joyful, yet hectic, world of holiday shopping.

Finding presents can be tough, expensive, and so last-minute for us college students. Don’t stress, though, we aren’t here to do that! Here is my list of affordable, thoughtful gift ideas, broken down into categories to help you find the perfect thing for anyone on your list.

For the Sleepy & Cozy

Perfect for the friend who’s catching up on a semester’s worth of sleep or is a homebody.

  • Silk Pillow Case/Bonnet: A game-changer for hair and skin health that feels more luxurious
  • Weighted Eye Mask: Would be amazing for blocking out light and sinking into deep, stress-free rest
  • PJ Set: Cozy and a staple everyone can use. (Pro-tip: Go for a soft, matching set!)
  • Fluffy Blanket: An instant upgrade for any room and keeps them warm while they’re relaxing

For the Glow & Refresh

Help them recover from the semester’s all-nighters and stress-breakouts.

  • Skincare Set: Face masks, a rich moisturizer, or a pack of pimple patches are always a hit. A little self-care goes a long way, and there are many different kinds/options to choose from
  • Hand Cream: A lifesaver for dry, winter-worn hands after all that hand sanitizer
  • Blotting Papers: Keep shine away during long days
  • EOS Lotion: A favorite of mine; it’s fun, and a practical pick they’ll actually use every day to stay moisturized and smell good

For the College Essentials Group

Gifts that are practical, fun, and make campus life just a little bit better.

  • Matcha Set: A simple whisk, bowl, and tin of matcha for the friend who’s overpriced coffee runs and trendy
  • Lap Desk: The gift of comfortable studying and eating anywhere, like a comfortable bed for a lazy day
  • Fidget Toy: A discreet study buddy for combating anxiety or restlessness during lectures

For the DIY & Heartfelt Gift

When you want to give something truly unique and personal.

  • Clay Art: Make custom candle holders, coasters, jewelry dishes, or even a tic-tac-toe. It’s affordable, creative, and shows you put in the time
  • Felt Crafts: Felt is inexpensive and incredibly versatile. Whip up a cute wallet, a mini plushie, or a bookmark; the possibilities are endless

This list is full of items people might not buy for themselves but would be thrilled to receive. They’re the perfect mix of unnecessary and needed at the same time.

May this second half of December allow you to spend real time with friends and family, explore places you couldn’t during the semester, and finally get some well-deserved rest!
