Underrated Asian Chefs

Cooking is such a big part of Asian culture, and we owe it to our community to honor these amazing, flavorful dishes that have become such an integral part of our identity. In this article, I’ll be introducing a few underrated, or not-as-well-known, Asian chefs on YouTube that you should look into so you can learn about new dishes or the art of cooking from different perspectives. Check them out!

1. TaiwanCooking

This Taiwanese chef covers lots of the basics of cooking tapioca pearls for bubble tea (boba) using standardized measurements in her recipes while providing you the sense of comfort of your mom being there with you in the kitchen while cooking. Check out this video!

2. Seonkyoung Longest

Seonkyoung gives chill, older sister vibes that loves to cook Korean, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese cuisine. She also does restaurant reviews and mukbangs to keep you entertained! Check her out!

3. Helen’s Recipes

Helen’s recipes teaches you how to make authentic Vietnamese food using an easy-to-follow format that doesn’t compromise the traditional cooking methods used in making these cultural dishes. Check out her page!

4. Kitchen Princess Bamboo

This chef teaches her audience how to make popular, practical, simple, and everyday Japanese recipes while still providing an entertainment component of travel vlogs and food reviews of different Japanese meals she experiences as she travels.

5. Nyona Cooking

Nyona is a Malaysian cuisine based channel that teaches you how to make Malaysian food at home, like curry laksa or ginger steamed fish. Due to the nature of Malaysian history, its cuisine takes influences from China, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines. If you want to try a new flavorful dish, check her out!
