Asian Characters That Represented My Childhood

    April 2, 2024 /

Growing up as an Asian American, there was not much representation in popular media. Each time a character that slightly resembled me popped up on my TV screen, I would get so excited with a bright smile. Thankfully, as more time has passed, Asian representation in movies and TV Shows has become more prevalent. However, this does not mean that I have forgotten the Asian characters that I grew up with. With a deep connection to each one of them, I would like to share the Asian characters…

Upon graduating from New York University, Chef Vicky Lau embarked on an advertising career as a graphic designer, where she honed her ability to leverage subtle visual cues to elicit audience responses—a skill later integrated into her culinary endeavors. April 2, 2024 /

In the vast growing digital world where creators are fleeting attention, Stephanie Soo emerges as a multifaceted gem, often underappreciated for the amount of research, dedication, and enjoyment she creates from her dazzling content. A Mother-Daughter’s Unbreakable Bond

    December 27, 2022 /

For many, a mother is a role model, best friend, and pillar of strength for her daughter. A mother comforts her daughter during moments of weakness. A mother gives advice to her daughter on how to dress. A mother warns her daughter about boys. A mother, most importantly, loves her daughter unconditionally, as they emotionally understand their daughter the best. It is widely believed that the relationship between mothers and daughters is the strongest of all parent-child bonds, and although I disagreed with this belief for a long time, I now understand the truth.

Spotlighting Melanie Gasmen: Asian Creators on Campus

    November 12, 2021 /

November is highly associated with Black Friday deals and early holiday shopping, I thought it would be nice to show an ethical, great quality product made by one of my closest friends here at UD, Melanie Gasmen. Melanie Gasmen is a junior at the University of Delaware with a major in visual communications. This year, she designed FSA’s first ever tote bag, which has become a staple in my wardrobe ever since. You can take it with you on your next shopping trip, or gift to a friend!

    An Unforeseen Lineage

    March 29, 2021 /

As amazing as it is to have so many prominent Asian female idols in history and the media, sometimes the ones who empower us the most are those from our everyday lives. Before coming to the University of Delaware, so many students like me grew up in predominantly white communities, and we did not really have mentors that we related to culturally. I never thought that one day, I would find a group of women just like me who once felt the same way.

Christine Hà: The Blind Cook on Her Journey to Reclaim Herself

    March 29, 2021 /

“If you can’t see how steep a mountain is, then you can’t fear it.” That is how Christine Hà, a then 33-year-old home cook with visual impairment, stepped into the U.S Master Chef’s legendary kitchen and mesmerized Gordran Ramsay with her Vietnamese comfort food - clay pot-style catfish. From that moment onward, I know I am watching the history of the culinary world in the making. I see a star is born.
