New Year resolutions generally have a bad rep of being short-lived and forgotten. Whether you’re the type of person to sit down and write down your resolutions or simply keep it in the back of your mind, you’re more than likely to forget about it by the time February rolls around. After some research and analysis, I came up with a list of easy steps to remember so you can turn your resolutions into reality.
1. Be realistic
Being realistic is the best way to start. Every time a new year comes around, I have the mentality of the new year being “my year.” Having that mindset usually results in very ambitious goals that aren’t really attainable. Instead, we should try to set smaller goals and try to surpass them.
2. Talk about it
Talking about your resolution to your friends and family will allow them to keep you accountable. When your close friends are actively pushing you to achieve your goals, you start to try harder because you don’t want to let them down.
3. Track your progress
Physically writing down your progress will allow you to see if you’re improving. For example, if you’re trying to lose weight, make sure you track your weight every once in a while to see if you’re making progress. Making short progress and tracking it will motivate you to continue your efforts towards reaching the larger goal.
Hopefully these steps will allow you to take your resolutions more seriously so you can end the year as a better person.
