My Favorite Asian Female TikTok Creator: Viveca Chow
Submitted by Angelina Ng
TikTok is an extremely useful and informative tool for seeking new ideas, finding new products, and sharing your life stories and personality in videos. Many of these TikTok creators and influencers are promoting items and have sponsorships on TikTok. Although this platform is great for insight and information, there are a handful of videos that can spread false statements and can be misleading or a scam to their audience. It is important to be cautious when watching a TikTok influencer promote a product or stating facts in general. However, there are many TikTok creators who post their lifestyle, fashion, new places to explore, and helpful tips to improve one’s own lifestyle.
For me, I am always looking for new areas to explore, new places to shop at, or any fun events I can attend. Since I’m from New York, there are several common areas I go to: Bryant Park, 34th St., SoHo, and Chinatown. Although there are lots of great eateries and great views in these areas, things can be repetitive and I also can miss seasonal events. My friends and I would tend to visit the same places and eat the same foods. When I have friends visiting from out of town, it can be difficult for us to find great places for pictures or to do inexpensive activities. One of my favorite female TikTok creators, Viveca Chow (@/vivecachow on TikTok), is definitely an underrated and helpful creator. Famously known for being the “follow for more nyc spots” girl, she is an extremely useful resource when it comes to searching for new ways to make a visit to New York City enjoyable every time. Additionally, she is an aspiring actress who shares her personal experiences of auditioning for roles and her progress in her career.
Viveca’s bubbly and passionate personality is certainly portrayed in all of her videos. She offers numerous amounts of activities, eateries, events, and places to make sure your trip to New York isn’t ever boring. She ensures to inform her audience about upcoming free events to attend as well. Throughout the year, she informs us about seasonal events: some recent ones include several date ideas for Valentine’s Day month, upcoming freebies for St. Patrick’s Day, and amazing views to check out during the upcoming Spring season! She shows enormous support to small businesses and vendors, especially ones that are Asian-owned, and she interviews owners to create connections and help their business grow. She is Chinese, so she often would seek hidden gems in Chinatown to interview vendor owners about their delicious foods to try.
One of my favorite places that she has recommended was Canal Street Market. Located on 265 Canal Street, this market has a variety of good eats, small businesses and vendors on rotation, and lots of cute items from candles, stickers, and graphic t-shirts. There’s a vibrant claw machine section that is great for taking photos with friends. The different food stands gave us a large selection to choose from. When we were there, some cuisines at the market were Mexican, Chinese, American, and Korean. Their Thai bubble tea was one of my favorite things I purchased. Since we visited this winter and the vendors typically switch depending on the season, there were a handful of vintage sweaters and leather jackets for the winter season. These small owners are incredibly kind and even let you try everything on as well. With the help of Viveca, there are so many places I am aiming to visit!
