Love Letters to my Loved Ones

Written by Ruthie Suarez

To My Sweetest Companions, Carson & Cardo

You both came into my life when I needed something quiet, something warm, someone who didn’t ask questions. And somehow, you just knew.

Carson, you are my loud little comfort machine. When my anxiety starts climbing, and my thoughts feel too big, you jump onto my chest and start purring like you’re on a mission. It’s not a soft background hum. It’s deep and steady and powerful. Your whole body vibrates against mine, and somehow my breathing slows to match it. My heart settles. The panic fades.

Cardo, you are my quiet warmth. The one who curls perfectly into my side at night, who stretches out across my legs like you own the bed. Sometimes I wake up before my alarm and realize you both spent the entire night right next to me, snuggled in the blankets, warm and breathing softly. There is nothing more comforting than opening my eyes and seeing you still there, like you kept watch.

And at night, when the world feels overwhelming, you both curl up beside me. Sometimes I wake up before my alarm and realize you never left. You’re still there, tucked against my side, warm and tangled in the blankets. There is something so healing about opening my eyes and seeing you peacefully asleep next to me.

You follow me from room to room.

You wait outside the doors as if separation is difficult.

In your tiny routines and squishy paws, you’ve given me something steady. When I’m anxious, you calm me. When I’m sad, you comfort me. When I feel alone, you prove that I’m not.

You came into my life when I needed you most. And every night you choose to curl up beside me, every time Carson’s purr fills the room, every time Cardo tucks himself close, I am reminded that love can be small, warm, and incredibly powerful.

With all my love, your mommy,

Ruthie 🐾<3
