I Know These Restaurants Hate to See Me Coming

Submitted by Gina Choi

Growing up working in my family’s restaurant and being a huge foodie since birth, I think I know a thing or two about what makes a good restaurant. I would even go as far as to say that one of my main love languages would be food.

Speaking of love, nothing screams true romance more than grabbing a quick dessert to share after a dinner date. So to start, the first restaurant that hates to see me coming has to be Mango Mango Dessert Cafe. As someone whose favorite fruit is mango, this cafe satisfies all of my cravings with desserts ranging from mango sticky rice (my favorite) to mango crepes and so much more. They also serve other non-mango items such as boba and warm dessert soups so there is something for everybody! “I’m going to visit you again just for that mango dessert place, I think about it everyday.” -my mom who rarely ever visits me at school and who also isn’t a dessert person.

The next restaurant that definitely hates to see me coming is Chiwa Bistro located at Christiana Mall. Ramen is such a universally beloved comfort food, it sure is for me, but I will admit I am slightly picky about my ramen toppings. At Chiwa Bistro however, they have one ramen dish that includes all of my favorite toppings and in my opinion, is the most perfectly created ramen for my tastes personally. The “Tonyu” ramen at Chiwa includes bean sprouts, scallion, corn (anyone who knows me knows I LOVE CORN), and seasoned boiled egg with soy milk, miso paste broth, and your choice of protein.

While you’re in Christiana Mall, you might as well grab your boba fix after a big bowl of ramen (Tonyu of course). The #1 boba shop that HATES to see me coming is definitely Mr. Wish, which is located inside of the mall. Wish has a wide variety of drinks and toppings to satisfy any of your boba cravings. My personal favorite and go-to will always be the Avocado smoothie since they’re one of my all-time favorite drinks. Mr. Wish uses real avocados and real fruits for their other drinks as well so each drink is always made to perfection.

The final restaurant that hates to see me coming may not be considered a restaurant to some, but to me, it deserves an honorable mention here. Everybody knows and loves Wawa and it deserves to be mentioned in this article because it truly is THE place that HATES to see me coming. Late night Wawa runs with my best friends are enough to keep me going throughout the academic weeks. Petition for Wawa to incorporate more Asian foods!

I can’t make an article without talking about my family’s own! The final restaurant that hates to see me coming (literally since birth) is my family-owned Japanese-Korean restaurant named Izumi in North Wales, PA. We serve a range of Japanese foods from Udon to Donburi and our most popular and my personal favorite: Katsu. I love to rave about how my mom makes the best Katsu, although it sounds biased this is completely unbiased. I have tried many restaurants’ donkatsu and none can ever compare to the one back at home. I have also been eating the food here my whole life and yet I could never become tired of eating it again and again.
