Goals for the School Year
Submitted by Will Chen
The start of a new school year is always refreshing. In many ways, it represents a chance for new beginnings. Personally, I look forward to the fall because it means reuniting with friends on campus. These past 3 years have been amazing at the University of Delaware, and I hope to make this last year the best one yet. Living a life with regrets is one of my biggest fears, so I plan to make the most of the time I have left. With that in mind, here are the goals I wish to accomplish before I graduate.
Goal 1: Secure a Full-Time Job
As a senior, securing a job after graduation is the most important goal for me. I know I should try to enjoy myself more before I graduate, but without a job lined up yet, I will make this goal my primary focus for the rest of the school year.
Goal 2: Expand My Social Circle
College is a time when people should grow their network and make meaningful connections. This should not stop in senior year. As an introvert, I found it difficult to make conversation with strangers when I was a freshman. However, these past years have helped me realize the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone. Looking back, I am proud of the progress I’ve made in becoming more confident and open to meeting new people. I hope to continue expanding my network and forming lasting friendships.
Goal 3: Travel to China
Over the past year or so, I have had the privilege of traveling to Hawaii and South Korea. Being able to immerse myself in a different culture is an enriching life experience. Before I graduate, I hope to travel to China and visit my parents’ hometown. There is nothing I want more than to connect with my ancestral and cultural roots.
Goal 4: Pick Up a New Hobby
I recently picked up pickleball as a new hobby of mine and have been loving it. Learning a new skill or trying a new sport helps me relieve stress, but also allows me to balance myself between activities I enjoy doing and schoolwork. I am currently trying to learn how to cook and edit videos more efficiently. A sport I would like to learn is padel, which is also a racket sport, but is played within glass walls.
Goal 5: Be Consistent with Exercise
As a person who gets sick easily, consistently exercising is important. I currently go to the gym 3-4 times a week and run once a week. Maintaining physical fitness will improve my well-being and help me reach a greater state of mindfulness.
