This year has certainly been surreal, to say the least.

In a matter of months, I have watched the world grind to a sudden halt. Our universities have shut down, millions of people suddenly are finding themselves jobless, and quarantine has become the necessary means for survival.

This is our new reality: one that can be characterized with overwhelming loneliness and anxiety at times. But like with every crisis, we learn and we adapt. For me, and perhaps also the rest of the world, this tumultuous time has truly taught us the importance of appreciating the smaller beauties in life that we have so often passed by without a second thought.

I realize now that the things I easily took for granted—a walk under a brilliant blue sky, a meal shared with a friend, or even a classroom full of students—are all experiences that have truly defined happiness in my life. My teammates and I created the Asian American Perspective and Connections Magazine (or AAPC for short) as a testament to all these beautiful experiences, the small ones that serve to bring you joy over the course of this quarantine.

In this magazine blog, we have compiled a diverse collection of writing and art that detail the voice of the Asian-American student. Ranging from recipes to personal essays to poetry, AAPC has a little bit for everyone! We hope you find the time to check out our little project during your time in quarantine and end up leaving with more encouragement than you came. 🙂

With Love,

Grace Zhang
