Comfort Shows/Movies
Written by Will Chen
After a day of hard work and studying, I like to let myself unwind at night. Especially on weekends, there is nothing better than staying inside and enjoying a few shows or movies with close friends. Although going out on the weekends is just as fun, staying in provides me a time where I can reset my brain and prepare myself for another week of school. Here are a few of my go-to shows and movies I watch when I need a break from life.
1. To Be Hero
To Be Hero X is a Chinese animated TV show, also known as a donghua, that was recently released this past summer. It received over 300 million views worldwide and has been applauded as one of the best shows this year. This show revolves around a world where heroic powers are determined by the trust of their fans. It follows 10 protagonists and recounts their origin stories. It acts as an anthology and builds up to a bi-yearly hero tournament that will determine the new X, also known as the world’s number 1 hero. Here is the official Crunchyroll description for the show:
“In a world full of brilliant heroes, it’s the trust of fans that turns heroes into superheroes. If a hero loses the people’s trust, they lose their special abilities. Trust value is collected, quantified, and used to determine a hero’s ranking, displayed on their wrist. Every two years, the top heroes go to a tournament to fight, determine new trust values, and earn their rankings.”
2. How to Train Your Dragon
“How to Train Your Dragon” is one of my childhood favorite movies. It’s filled with moments of laughter, smiles, tears, and hope. As a kid, I wished dragons existed in real life, and this movie was able to turn my imagination into reality. Although I’m much older now, “How to Train Your Dragon” will never get old to me and will forever remain one of my most cherished childhood memories.
3. The Office
“The Office” is my favorite sitcom of all time. I remember discovering the show one summer and finishing all 9 seasons by the time school started. Watching Michael Scott, Jim Halpert, Dwight Schrute, and the rest of the Dunder Mifflin crew never fails to bring a smile to my face. Whenever I feel I need to cheer up and boost my mood, I always turn on this show. There is nothing better than a good laugh to combat stress. If I could erase my memory and rewatch any show, “The Office” would be my pick.
