Comfort on a Plate: My Top Comfort Meals

There are plenty of days when the weather is gloomy and I am feeling down. With midterms season creeping around the corner, academic stress can surely affect the way I feel. When there are times that feel difficult to get through, a main solution for me is food. I make or pick up these delicious meals to munch on during the gloomy days. It gives me an extra push or motivation, or can ease my stress. Here are my favorite mood-boosting foods that you should try!

1. Beef Pho

For colder or rainy weather, nothing tastes better than warm broth and noodles. The steaming broth infused with seasoning and vegetables really relaxes my body. The herbs and spices are nourishing, and the beef provides a great source of protein! I eat this when I feel cold or feeling under the weather.

2. Eggs & Seaweed

This quick and easy snack surely satisfies my stomach. Just scramble some eggs, and wrap them around a piece of seaweed. It is a great savory snack that takes less than 5 minutes to prepare. To add a more delicious taste, I recommend topping the eggs and rice with Maggi seasoning or soy sauce! 

3. Chicken and Broccoli

Although this Chinese takeout dish might be plain and basic, the mix of vegetables and chicken over white rice is flavorful. The creamy sauce on top adds a burst of seasoning and a delightful taste.  It is often associated with ‘home-cooked’ vibes, due to the simple ingredients put into this dish. Chicken and broccoli are surely an easy and reliable meal for me.

4. McDonald’s Nuggets and Fries

A fast food meal needs to be included here as a comfort meal. This is because it is extremely quick and convenient to order. This meal evokes nostalgia and warm flavors. Many grew up eating McDonald’s, so having this as a comfort meal can bring calmness and ease. The crispy texture of the nuggets and fries can surely satisfy every stomach.

5. Macaroni n’ Cheese

What better way to make comfort food than by simply cooking up a box of pasta and mixing in a cheese packet! The combination of soft pasta packed with rich and creamy cheese sauce makes my day feel so much better! This meal creates a sense of warmth that instantly soothes me.
