Spotlighting Melanie Gasmen: Asian Creators on Campus
November is highly associated with Black Friday deals and early holiday shopping, I thought it would be nice to show an ethical, great quality product made by one of my closest friends here at UD, Melanie Gasmen. Melanie Gasmen is a junior at the University of Delaware with a major in visual communications. This year, she designed FSA’s first ever tote bag, which has become a staple in my wardrobe ever since. You can take it with you on your next shopping trip, or gift to a friend!

An Unforeseen Lineage
As amazing as it is to have so many prominent Asian female idols in history and the media, sometimes the ones who empower us the most are those from our everyday lives. Before coming to the University of Delaware, so many students like me grew up in predominantly white communities, and we did not really have mentors that we related to culturally. I never thought that one day, I would find a group of women just like me who once felt the same way.

What do a group of young college apparel designers/merchandisers have in common with Disney’s heroine Mulan? Designing a line of trendy warrior shoes together, embodying Disney’s “Mulan” live action’s common theme, “loyal, brave, and true.”

Festive Times at UD
As someone who eagerly looks forward to the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, this year (understandably) looked a little different. With the world still in the throes of a worldwide pandemic, the most important thing for our family was to prioritize safety and caution.

UD VSA Families Program
The Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) at UD hosted their first ever VSA Families Program for the Fall 2020 semester. These ‘families’ are smaller communities within VSA that help students make friends and support each other. Even though everything was online, there were still more than 30 participants in the program.
