Best Christmas Songs
Written By Mikhaella Lopez
Christmas. Pasko. There are many different names for Christmas across all cultures. Even for the families that don’t celebrate Christmas, everyone hears the same songs on the radio. No, I’m not talking about the same five pop songs that you hear on the morning AM radio on the way to work or school. I’m talking about Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You”, or Wham’s “Last Christmas” on repeat for the nth time in thirty minutes.
As someone who started celebrating Christmas the moment September 1st hit, I’ve been listening to among the hundreds of thousands of holiday songs Spotify and the radio have to offer. Whether it’s during my commutes to class or with my family in the car, I narrowed my long list of best Christmas songs to the two best to listen to during this festive season. So if you’re looking for a new Christmas song, you’ve come to the right place.
For those of you out there who love a calm, jazzy Christmas song, Laufey’s “Love To Keep Me Warm” is the song to play. Like a steaming hot cup of cocoa on a snowy day, “Love To Keep Me Warm” captures the essence of having one’s significant other in their arms. Holding hands, spending time with one another, and taking in the holiday spirit, the song mixes together the perfect ingredients for a day spent in. For the ones who love the coziness of staying indoors with their loved ones, “Love To Keep Me Warm” will definitely have you toasty and snug.
And for the people out there who love pop music with their Christmas songs, don’t worry, I have a song dedicated to you. “A Nonsense Christmas” by Sabrina Carpenter combines pop elements, catchy lyrics, and, of course, the holiday cheer only one would find in a Hallmark Christmas movie. Save for the meaning of the lyrics unapologetically being Sabrina Carpenter’s music style, the feeling of “A Nonsense Christmas” is equal to dressing up in cute holiday outfits with friends, playing pop remixes of popular Christmas songs while making cookies and hot cocoa together. If you love a pop-esque Christmas song, I hope you take a listen to “A Nonsense Christmas” and sing your heart out.
In the spirit of the holiday season, I hope these two songs can give you a new taste of Christmas music in your playlists. Next time you’re listening to the same Christmas songs on the radio or on a playlist, slip some jazz and pop into your listening, and you won’t be disappointed. Have a holly, jolly jam sesh!
