How To Halloween Amid a Pandemic?

Submitted by Giang Nguyen

The spooky festivity is in full swing after a year of hiatus. Everyone is already making plans for a comeback that is bigger than ever before. Pumpkin carvings, trick-or-treat, costume parties, you name it all. However, the surge of Covid-19 cases due to the Delta variant poses a big question to us: How to do so safely? Don’t worry because I got you! Here are a few pieces of advice that will help you enjoy the fun in a Covid-cautious way.

1. Mask up!

Face-to-face transmission remains one of the biggest causes of Covid-19. Thus, it’s important to wear masks whenever you can, especially if you intend to go to crowded places. Luckily, masks should not be too socially awkward if you know how to incorporate them into your costume. DIY your mask with relevant design patterns will not only make you stand out, but also protect you from the threat of getting Covid. A ninja with black hoods? The iconic Clueless yellow plaid outfit with a matching mask? All sounds cool, fashionable, and safe at the same time.

2. One-way trick-or-treating

This alternative was created last year when the pandemic was raging across the country. But it still comes in handy this time as we continue to face the threats of the Delta variant. There are endless creative ways to hand out candy: prepare individually wrapped goodie bags, plant a candy garden on your lawn for quick pickups, parachute candy through your doors, etc. Or, the least you can do is to social distance while lining up in front of houses. Either way, it ensures that everyone is safe and having fun.

3. Too old for trick-and-treating? Let’s do a drive-in cinema!

Drive-in theatre has been back in trend the past year as it provides an outdoor space for people to hang out while still practicing social distancing. So why not bring it back for the horror movie season? If you are tired of hearing your brothers and sisters’ screaming at the old-so-predictable jumpscare, go and see all kinds of reactions from other moviegoers. I guarantee you will have a good laugh for the rest of the night.

Last but not least, however you celebrate Halloween, please make sure you feel safe and take precautionary measures, which includes washing your hands and staying at home if you do not feel well. Feel free to share with us any ideas you have for this Halloween season!
