Hi everyone! My name is Sabrina Lee and I am graduating from UD with a B.S. in Fashion Merchandising and minors in Business Administration and Sustainable Apparel & Textile Innovation.
I am from Long Island, NY and I chose UD because it was the perfect distance from home, had a great fashion program, and was (shockingly?) a predominantly white institution. As odd as this sounds, I grew up in a town where the community was 50% Asian and I decided that I needed to step away from that for a moment. I began to explore the college experience coming in as a freshman and was trying to better understand my own sense of identity. After a while, I realized that it is important to be proud of your culture and where you’re from. It doesn’t matter who you’re friends with or how many of them you have as long as they accept you for who you are.
I was lucky enough to be a part of many different friend groups these past four years and I can only thank myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and finding those people. I have gotten to meet so many different types of people through my fraternity, my freshman year floor, UDance, and of course AAPC.
My piece of advice is to do whatever it is you want to do during college and don’t let anyone stop you from that. These have been some of the best 4 years of my life and I wish I didn’t try so hard my first year to “fit in.” Just enjoy every moment of it and make as many memories as you can because it all goes by SO quick. I’ve truly met some of my best friends here and I hope you do too 🙂
